Public Schooling in Southeast Wisconsin 2012-2013

For the past 27 years, the Public Policy Forum has compiled and analyzed data on southeast Wisconsin’s public school districts for the purpose of producing a report on trends in the region’s academic performance and demographics. We continue that tradition this year with updated trend analysis using new accountability standards, as well as additional performance metrics, to provide greater understanding of academic performance and challenges in the region.

As context for this year’s analysis, we provide overviews of important fiscal and policy changes adopted as part of the 2013-15 state budget, and of the evolving standards and methods of assessment that are impacting Wisconsin’s education environment.  Changes to standardized testing and accountability metrics will bring greater opportunity to evaluate the performance of school districts and individual schools, but they also complicate efforts to understand trends and gauge proficiency.
